Compost systems

The toilet system in the Cob House in Moivaro uses no water for flushing. Instead a simple bucket toilet or ‘lovable loo’, is used where sawdust is applied after each toilet use to prevent odors and flies. This type of toilet is ideal for both temporary and permanent shelters, and in places where water is not easily available. It is simple to construct and has a low cost. The human waste collected is used for composting in our vegetable and fruit farm after it is left to decompose for a period of at least six months. Tia Nuru provides consultation on the construction of a compost toilet, on making compost piles and the use of compost in organic farms.
